Four reasons to work with a copywriter
13/09/2011

Outsourcing work to specialists has become a tried and tested way of working for many businesses.  Copywriting is no different.  Here are four reasons why it might be worth considering working with a copywriter:

1. Free up internal resources: Writing content for marketing campaigns can be time consuming, especially for the small business.  Outsourcing the requirement to a professional copywriter can help create a clear focus on what you are trying to achieve, and why.

2. Tap into a different view: Working with a copywriter can provide an outside perspective, injecting new life and fresh ideas into your brand and marketing communications.

3. Translate feelings into fact: Being too close to your business can often stop you from articulating your offer and brand in a way that you would like.  A copywriter can often translate this for you, developing a tone of voice and style for your business.

4. Stick to a deadline: Working with a copywriter can actually speed up the process of creating business communications and marketing campaigns.  Often, writing content will slip down the internal priority list.  Setting deadlines for an external provider will help keep projects on track.

Good copywriting is just great customer service
18/08/2011

We all know good customer service when we see it. It makes us feel good, heightens our positive feeling about a particular brand, or experience, and makes us more likely to recommend, and repurchase.

Good copywriting should evoke the same sentiment.  All too often, business writing is bland, extreme self promotion, with little true regard for the client.  Copywriting with a tone of voice and style that reminds customers of what it is like to work with you, or to buy your goods and services can not only help you stand out from the competition, but also reaffirm a commitment to care and customer service.

Is it Marketing or Copywriting…?
04/08/2011

I struggle with this one.  I have been asked what the difference is between copywriting and marketing.  For me, it’s really difficult to distinguish the two.  I’ve worked in Marketing for 13 years.  When it has come to securing budgets, executing marketing campaigns, or developing new products and services, I wouldn’t have been half as persuasive, without the ability to write.

Copywriting and marketing share a lot of common ground.  To succeed in either, you have to know your audience. You need to know what it is that they need, and how they might articulate or define that need.  Then you have to be aware of what it is that you can do.  What is it that really makes your product or service better, easier or more valuable than the competition?  How do you package and articulate that in a meaningful way for your audience?  Two simple questions, but they can take a bit of time and soul searching to really answer effectively.
